String Simwhat is a string?

A string is a one-dimensional object that replaces the point-like particles of ordinary physics. Instead of a particle following a dot, a string sweeps out a two-dimensional worldsheet as it moves through time. Its vibrations are the particles we see - pluck it once and you get the electron, pluck it differently and you get a photon. Work through the three levels to see a string stand up waves classically, trace its relativistic worldsheet, and meet the oscillator spectrum that quantization adds.

n = 3
1.00x
30 N
0.50 kg/m
Wave speedv = 7.75 m/s
Frequencyf 3 = 11.62 Hz
v = √(T/μ) = 7.75
fn = n·v / 2L = 11.62 Hz

A fixed-end string with tension T and density μ carries standing waves. The velocity v depends only on the material, and mode n fits exactly n half-wavelengths between the pinned ends.

An educational visualization of ideas from string theory - not a physical prediction. Built so the wave equation, the worldsheet, and the Virasoro algebra feel tangible.
